Dentures Overview

As the most straightforward approach to restorative dentistry, dentures are also one of the most affordable and appealing. At Loftus Dental in Rapid City, SD we encourage patients who have undergone tooth loss, or who need some teeth extracted, to meet with our dentures specialist to determine if this is a good restorative option for their needs.

As your chosen dentist in Rapid City, we encourage you to set aside any outdated views or visions of dentures you might have. After all, they are one of the most advanced forms of custom dentistry available, and they are no longer the ill-fitting or unnatural looking appliances of much earlier decades.

Today’s dentures will be carefully designed to fit your natural, existing bite. Whether you have teeth remaining or have lost both arches of teeth, our team will create entirely natural looking dentures that fill out the soft tissue of your face in a way that is identical to your original teeth. Not only will you look the same, but you can begin to eat and speak as you did before you lost any teeth.

To get dentures is not at all complicated and takes only a single visit. We make the molds and images, measurements and other technical data, and send all of it to our lab. Once your dentures are created, we have you come for a fitting. At that time, we ensure that your full or partial dentures fit comfortably and snugly. This ensures they don’t move as you speak or eat.

We ask our patients to wear their new dentures for the first 24 hours without removing them. This lets them get a good idea of fit and function and alerts us to any issues with rubbing or discomfort.

It takes only a few days to grow used to your dentures and you can then enjoy full function of your mouth once again. Upkeep and care is very easy, but you will need to return for twice annual cleanings and oral exams to ensure your gums and any remaining adult teeth are in good health and your dentures in good condition. You can expect them to last from five to ten years before any replacement is needed.
