Invisalign Overview

At Loftus Dental in Rapid City, SD. we are happy to provide our patients with both orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry, in addition to restorative and preventative care. Though there is one treatment that we use for both cosmetic and orthodontic care, and it is known as Invisalign.

As your chosen dentist in Rapid City, we want you to know about Invisalign because it is such a remarkable advance in dentistry. It is not clear braces, as some mistakenly believe, but it is a system that can yield the same results as this form of orthodontics. Instead of using wires and brackets, though, it uses as series of custom made clear aligners that you wear for two to three weeks and then move on to the next in the series. Our Invisalign specialist will be able to explain how many of the aligners your treatment will need and if you are a candidate.

Unfortunately, not everyone can use the Invisalign because it cannot address the most severe misalignment issues. However, the vast majority can enjoy this treatment.

The Benefits of Invisalign

While the ability of the Invisalign treatment to address almost all cosmetic and functional issues with the alignment of the upper and lower teeth is a clear advantage to using it, another factor is its near invisibility. Few adults, and many teens, are happy with the way that classic braces look as they adjust the positions of the teeth. With clear aligners, though, few will even realize you are having your teeth straightened. Even more appealing is the fact that the irritation, abrasion and soreness caused by classic braces is non-existent with Invisalign. This is because, the smooth aligners allow the soft tissue of the mouth to glide easily over them, never experiencing any pain or difficulty.

Even oral hygiene and upkeep are easier with this approach because the aligners are removed for eating and brushing and flossing. You can keep your teeth and gums in top shape, and easily keep the aligners in good condition without a lot of effort. The only “downside” is that the pace and consistency of alignment is in your hands as it is you who will have to wear them and care for them.
