PERIODONTAL TREATMENT

Your teeth are intended to last a lifetime, and they can….with proper care. Did you know that more than half of all people over age 18 have at least the early stage of some type of periodontal (gum) disease? Scary thought!

Periodontal disease has been reported to be linked to the following problems:
• Heart disease
• Diabetes complications
• Risk of pre-term and low birthweight babies
• Stroke

Does your gum tissue bleed when you brush? Is your gum tissue tender and swollen? Do you have persistent bad breath? You may have some type of periodontal disease.

The mildest form of gum disease is gingivitis and it is reversible. But, if it goes untreated, it may lead to periodontitis, in which the gum detaches from the tooth, causing deep pockets to form. This can lead to bone loss, which will ultimately lead to losing your teeth!

When you first visit our office, one of our registered dental hygienists will perform a periodontal evaluation as part of your overall exam. You may not even be aware you have this disease until you already have bone loss! So take action now to help prevent future problems.
